It was all going pretty well for Olivier Giroud in the game against Crystal Palace today.
The Frenchman was back in the team after Pedro’s injury and he’d lashed in two (admittedly offside) goals for his team.
The moment the second strike left his foot, James Tompkins came lunging in and turned the striker’s ankle.
The ball was gone and it was offside, so no penalty was given, but that was no help to OG, who was subbed off looking like he was in some pain.
Our bench was absolutely feeble to start with today, and if Giroud misses more than a few days we’ll be truly at panic stations as the fixtures continue to come thick and fast.
Maybe this is the push the board needed to back Sarri with a forward in January?
That would be the only silver lining from what is turning into a really horrific run of bad luck for us.
