Virgil van Dijk has warned his Liverpool FC team-mates not to get carried away with their early season form, with the likes of Chelsea FC on the horizon for the Reds.

Liverpool FC kicked off their Champions League campaign with an impressive 3-2 win over Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield on Tuesday night as they continued their strong start to the season.

The Merseyside outfit have also won all five of their opening five Premier League games to leave them joint top of the Premier League table along with Chelsea FC.

Liverpool FC will take on Southampton at Anfield this weekend as they bid to try and make it six wins from six in the top flight and maintain their status as one of the pace-setters.

Chelsea FC have also made a fine start and Maurizio Sarri’s side currently sit top of the table after having won all of their Premier League games so far.

The two sides will face each other twice in the space of three days later this month, with Liverpool FC hosting Chelsea FC in the League Cup third round on 26 September, before the Reds travel to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on 29 September.

And Van Dijk has warned his team-mates to keep their feet on the ground ahead of the vital games coming up.

Van Dijk told Liverpool FC’s website: “We have to keep working hard and stay humble.

“We have a tough game on Saturday with Southampton, then Chelsea and Manchester City coming up.

“When games come along every three days you have to be properly prepared, it’s the only way forward. That and the right mindset.

“I want to create memories here, I want to win things with this team, and to do that we have to have belief in our ability to beat the best teams.”
