It was a defeat for Chelsea at St. James’ Park on Saturday evening.
It was one-way traffic for most of the match. The Blues had 70% possession and also had 19 shots to their opponents’ seven.
For most of the second half, the Toon did not even look like getting into the Blues’ box, never mind scoring – Steve Bruce’s side made a remarkable 21 clearances after the break as they tried to protect their goal.
However, Frank Lampard’s men couldn’t put all of their time on the ball to good use, and they were made to pay by Isaac Hayden in the very last minute of the game. The 1-0 loss does not affect Chelsea’s fourth place standing in the Premier League table for now, but they are on a run of three defeats in their last eight matches in the top-flight.
The club’s supporters were not at all happy with the display, and Callum Hudson-Odoi appeared to take the brunt of the criticism on Twitter.
@azuosumili said: “That Hudson-Odoi is turning out to be a very useless footballer I swear. Adds nothing and very wasteful. Talent, indeed”.
@ShezanMalikcfc said: “HUDSON ODOI IS OVERRATED. Been saying that since a long long time”.
