“West Ham scored because of him” – Enzo Maresca blames Chelsea star for West Ham goal
Despite Chelsea 5-1 win over West Ham, Chelsea Manager, Enzo Maresca has insisted that his team conceded a goal against West Ham United in the Premier League on Friday because of Estevao.
Maresca believes the Brazilian winger was at fault for Lucas Paqueta’s early wonder strike against the Blues at the London Stadium.
According to reports, Chelsea got off to a nightmare start at West Ham as Paqueta capitalised on a mistake from Estevao and hammered a thunderous 30-yard strike beyond Robert Sanchez in only the ninth minute.
But Chelsea’s response was emphatic, with the likes of Joao Pedro and Pedro Neto, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Trevoh Chalobah all scoring for the visitors.
While Estevao shone in place of Cole Palmer on his full Premier League debut.
Speaking to reporters after the game at his post-match interview, Maresca also encouraged Estevao, 18, to learn from his error which led to Paqueta’s early goal.
“We conceded the goal because of him [Estevao]. He lost the goal in the build-up so he needs to make mistakes to learn,” Maresca said.
“But overall, his performance was very good. That shows how good he is and it is the reason why he is here with us.”
