Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has shown that he has a heart of gold by paying the bill for a group of academy players at a local cafe, without them even knowing.

According to the Daily Mail, Mount was walking past the eatery when he spotted the Chelsea youngsters eating inside. Mount then walked in and informed the restaurant that he’d be paying for their meals, without the Chelsea youngsters even knowing what he’d done.

Mount remembered what it was like to be an academy player and secretly showed a touch of class towards the youngsters.

Not too long ago Mount was trying to break through the Chelsea first team, and had to spend the last two seasons away on loan at both Vitesse and Derby County respectively. It was while he was on loan with Derby County that he impressed Frank Lampard who was in charge of the Rams.

The 20-year-old has settled in quickly and scored his first senior goal for Chelsea against Leicester City in only his second Premier League match. He followed it up with another goal a week later; this time at Carrow Road against Norwich City.

Mount impressed in Chelsea’s 3-2 victory over Norwich, scoring either side of a Tammy Abraham brace as we recorded our first victory of the campaign, and Lampard admitted after the game that he was impressed with the young midfielder.

“I don’t want to say he’s surprised me with the way he’s taking to the Premier League because I have real belief in him,” said Lampard.

“But he has made me stand up and take notice of just how far he can go in the game. Doing well last year at Derby was great but that’s one thing, and coming to Chelsea and performing at this level with all the competition for places is another.

“Mason has a fantastic character and that’s part of his overall package, plus he has the quality on the ball. Intelligent players who are hungry and have that talent and are fantastic to work with, and Mason is exactly that.
