“Why always me” – Chelsea star feels he’s been unfairly treated by officials this season

Marc Cucurella believes he has been handled unfairly by Premier League authorities, with doubts raised regarding Chelsea’s disciplinary record this season.

The Blues have had a decent start to the season under Enzo Maresca, sitting fourth with 14 points from a possible 21, but the number of cards Chelsea is racking up is concerning.

Despite only being seven games into the season, Cucurella and Wesley Fofana have already received five bookings and will miss the vital match against Liverpool at Anfield on October 20th.

The Blues aren’t a dirty team by any account and the majority of their bookings this season have been for dissent, an issue they had at the start of last season as well.

Maresca will need to get a grip on the issue before it potentially gets out of hand, as despite their squad depth he won’t want to be without his best players for important games.

Five bookings in seven games isn’t good, but Cucurella feels he’s being unfairly targeted by officials after his success with Spain at Euro 2024.

“You have more impact, people know you more,” he told Cope.

“Being a Euro champion is historic and you will always take that with you. Well, I’ve already been suspended for five yellow cards and I’ve committed few fouls; they’re going after me a bit.

“They jump on me quickly, especially when we play away. It’s normal, we won, I was involved in the goal, I’m playing at their home, it’s normal, they’re hurt.”
