Maurizio Sarri now having a wealth of options in that position available.
Apart from Kepa and Jorginho, who arrived with the Italian coach, Kovacic was the main acquisition of the club this summer.
He seemed like a specific pick of Sarri, and played in the first team from the moment he was fit.
But the recent goalscoring exploits of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley have seen them jump ahead of the Croatian in the pecking order.
Given we would have to negotiate a fee with Real Madrid to take make this current loan permanent.
There is some sense to the idea that we might be better off spending our resources in other areas of the team.
But in reality this source probably doesn’t even exist, and the chances are that Sarri does want to keep this talented young midfielder in his squad.
