Why I want to bring American mentality to manage Chelsea – Todd Boehly finally reveals

Todd Boehly, the new owner of Chelsea, has stated that he is looking at the broad picture when it comes to revenue and finances in football.

The new Chelsea owner was expected to go on a spending frenzy in his first year in the Premier League in order to reinvigorate the Chelsea playing squad, but this may not be the case.

While Todd Boehly’s LA Dodgers squad in the United States maintains a mix of spending and recovering funds, the American billionaire has hinted that he may adopt a different approach at Chelsea.

According to Boehly, there is an untapped market in the Premier League, as he believes that despite its global appeal, the Premier League does not receive enough money.

Despite the fact that the Premier League has billions of supporters throughout the world, Boehly claims that the big sports in the United States earn more revenue.

Despite the necessity for his new team to invest in new talent, Boehly has warned that the days of extraordinary expenditure are nearly over.

Chelsea must comply with the demands of the Financial Fair Play law, according to Chelsea owner Todd Boehly.

“Financial fair play is starting to get some teeth and that will limit ability to acquire players at any price,” Boehly said at the SuperReturn International conference in Berlin.

“UEFA takes it seriously and will continue to take it seriously. [More teeth] means financial penalties and disqualification from sporting competitions.”

“We think the global footprint of this sport is really undeveloped,” Boehly further said.

“There are four billion fans of European football. There are 170 million fans of NFL. Global club football is a fraction of the NFL media money.

“We are also going to be thinking about, how do we get more revenues for the players?

“If you look at [the NBA’s] LeBron James, for example, he has a whole business and a whole team dedicated to what’s not on the court.

“So I think there is opportunity to capture some of that American mentality into English sports and really develop them.”
