Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount are just a number of players who look to have an extremely bright future in west London under Lampard’s new regime.
Though it is one more less-talked about player who looks set to break into the first-team sooner rather than later.
19-year-old defender Reece James, who spent last season on loan at Wigan Athletic in the Championship, will reportedly start to become a more influential member of the Blues’ senior side when he returns from injury in a few weeks’ time.
James, a right-back, was initially thought to be backup to club stalwart Cesar Azpilicueta this season, and while that may still prove to be the case, many Chelsea fans are keen for him to become the club’s first-choice full-back instead of the 30-year-old Spain international, as highlighted by talkSPORT.
The Mirror are reporting that Azpilicueta, who has made over 300 appearances for Chelsea since joining the club from Marseille in 2012, is now gaining interest from both Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad, with the Spanish clubs reportedly set to move for him next summer should he fall out of favour at Stamford Bridge this season.
After the news broke on Twitter, here’s how some Chelsea fans reaction.
