Leicester City complete the permanent signing of Chelsea midfielder

According to reports on the club’s official website., Barclays FA Women’s Super League hopefuls Leicester City have completed the signing of defensive midfielder Charlotte Fleming on a permanent deal from Chelsea.

The 19-year-old has joined The Foxes on a deal which will initially run until summer 2022 and she could go straight into the Leicester City squad to face Crystal Palace at Farley Way on Sunday.

Fleming has made two senior appearances in her career to date, featuring for former club Chelsea in both the FA Women’s Continental League Cup and the Women’s FA Cup as The Blues faced second tier opponents in the early rounds of both competitions.

The youngster made the Chelsea bench for five Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixtures but never made her league debut for Emma Hayes’ side.

The teenager arrives at Farley Way on the same day that fellow midfielder Annabel Blanchard left Leicester City. Blanchard, who is the same age at Fleming, opted to join Leicester City’s FA Women’s Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers on a permanent deal.

Fleming will be hoping for her first taste of Barclays FA Women’s Super League next season should Leicester City confirm their promotion to the top flight. Jonathan Morgan’s side are three points clear at the top of the FA Women’s Championship table with just seven games to go.
