Stats shows why Kovacic is the weakest Chelsea midfielder this season

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic was voted as Chelsea’s best player last season, after a fine campaign for the Blues.

However, he hasn’t been at his best this season, with Frank Lampard yet to figure out his best midfield combination.

Mason Mount has been hailed for his form this season, and he seems one of the best midfielders for the Blues so far this campaign.

A recent stat has shown that Mason Mount is 7th in the league when it comes to percentage of progressive passing yards. However, Kovacic was found in a disappointing 30th position with just over 20% of his passes considered to be progressive.

Chelsea’s midfield has been blamed for the team’s lack of creativity, and N’golo Kante is two places above Kovacic in 28th place, despite his role as a defensive midfielder.

Lampard’s inability to field a stable midfield and attack has been blamed as part of the problems this season, with Mason Mount being the most consistent player in the Chelsea middle so far this season.
