26-year-old star could be first Chelsea summer signing after Todd Boehly makes shock transfer decision

Reports from Spain have claimed that Chelsea are ready to enter negotiations over the signing of Raphinha.

According to Sport via Sport Witness, the Blues are prepared to enter an advanced stage as well as fellow Premier League side Newcastle United.

Chelsea fans will be well aware of transfer talk surrounding Raphinha, given the fact that he nearly joined the club in 2022.

In Todd Boehly’s first window with the club, he made a bid to Leeds to try and sign the Brazilian who everyone knew was on the move.

The bid was originally accepted, however the player seemed far less convinced about a future in West London.

Instead, he held out for a move to Barcelona, where he has achieved a large amount of success in his first campaign.

Chelsea ready for Raphinha move

His side are close to being announced the champions of Spain ahead of Real Madrid in La Liga, although regular starts on the pitch haven’t always been a given for the 26-year-old.

He also struggled in Europe, with some of his performances asking questions over whether he has the ability to perform at the top level.

This coincided with Barcelona being knocked out early of both competitions, leaving a sour taste in the mouth despite the league success.

The club’s need to raise funds could see the Brazil international out of the door as quickly as he entered, with the Premier League the reported likely destination for him.

Thomas Tuchel was a particularly big fan of the potential signing before this season, as he looked to partner him on the wings with Raheem Sterling.

With the Englishman’s inconsistent form to say the least, it does not look as if this would have had the desired effect this season.
