£52m Chelsea player is likely to miss Liverpool game through injury, he could be out for weeks

Christopher Nkunku won’t be able to make his competitive Chelsea debut in the club’s Premier League opener against Liverpool.

This is according to The Evening Standard.

They claim that Christopher Nkunku, 25, is now ‘likely’ to miss next Sunday’s league fixture at home to Liverpool.

It is understood that the French attacker could spend weeks on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury in a pre-season game against Borussia Dortmund.

However, the report says early medical assessments are positive in the fact he’s not facing any kind of long-term layout.

Nkunku, who scored three goals during Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States, is looking like a fantastic £52million (Sky Sports) signing for the club.

His introduction to the Premier League will be delayed, which is extremely frustrating, but the injury news could’ve been worse.

We’ll now wait for an official line from the club about the extent of his injury problem.

Nkunku was a great goalscorer during his time in Germany with RB Leipzig, netting 70 times in 172 appearances for them.

Now, Chelsea fans are hoping he can inject some goals into a forward line that has struggled in recent years.

Mauricio Pochettino used the speedster in a variety of different attacking roles in pre-season, including the striker, No 10 and left wing position. Blues supporters will still be trying to work out his best position, though.

Described as “special” by Tyler Adams last year (Bulinews), Nkunku is going to be a key player at Stamford Bridge in the future.

However, his immediate absence will open the door for a teammate to try impress and take the game to Liverpool next week.
