£53million star says goodbye to club ahead of Chelsea move

According to Metro, Christopher Nkunku has paid an emotional goodbye to RB Leipzig ahead of his summer transfer to Chelsea.

However, in 2022, Chelsea triggered Nkunku’s £53million release clause and though the Blues are yet to officially confirm the transfer it has been an open secret for months.

And now, the highly-rated forward has all but confirmed he will be heading to Stamford Bridge after posting a video of his highlights at Leipzig on Instagram.

The post was accompanied by the caption: ‘So good to have shared these moments with you all!’ with the Bundesliga club’s official account replying: ‘Thank you for creating these moments!!!’

The 25-year-old has ended his time in Germany on a high, scoring in the DFP Pokal final win over Frankfurt last Sunday to secure back-to-back cup wins.

The PSG academy graduate moved to Leipzig in 2019 and has recorded a highly impressive 70 goals and 56 assists in 172 games across all competitions, winning Bundesliga Player of the Season in 2022 and finishing as its joint-top goalscorer in the last campaign.

Chelsea will be praying that the France international can deliver the goals in the Premier League, with their previous big money signings from the Bundesliga – Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic – failing to make the grade.

Finding the back of the net was the Blues’ biggest problem over the past season, with the club scoring just 38 league goals – only Bournemouth, Southampton, Everton and Wolves had fewer.
