Frank Lampard has admitted that he was impressed with the performance of Olivier Giroud in the weekend’s game against Tottenham.

Giroud scored the opener for Chelsea against Spurs, and his performance was top drawer as Chelsea defeated Tottenham 2-1.

Giroud who was close to an exit during the January transfer window has now forced his way into the manager’s thoughts, and Lampard has admitted that he can now rely on the World Cup winner.

Speaking to the media ahead of the Champions League tie with Bayern Munich, Lampard said:

“It is a tight turnaround and the effort put in during a London derby against Tottenham was huge, but the way he played was fantastic, not just the goal but the link he had with Mason Mount and Ross Barkley off the ball, and the work he did which was huge in the way we defended from the front. I know I can rely on him.”

Giroud played a key role for Chelsea last season as the Blues went on to win the Europa League, and the Frenchman was the competition’s top scorer with 11 goals and even assisted 4.
