Premier League legend picks out his best Chelsea player vs Everton – and it’s not Billy Gilmour

Chelsea put in the performance of their season yesterday as they thrashed Everton 4-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Frank Lampard’s team played fast and fluid attacking football and finally took their chances. This was a taster of the kind of football they have been playing this season but had previously been failing to take their chances, and also making silly mistakes at the back.

One of the main cogs of this performance was the focal point up front, Olivier Giroud.

The French World Cup winner was absolutely fantastic in holding the ball up, winning everything that went long, linking up attacks, and he even got a well deserved goal for his efforts. His performance was well appreciated by one of the best strikers that the Premier League has ever seen, Alan Shearer.

As reported by Football London, Shearer thought that Giroud was superb yesterday.

He said:

“He led the line superbly well,” Shearer said on Match of the Day 2. “The two Everton centre-backs never got near him at all. “It helps when the stand four or five yards off you as well. “His link-up play was fantastic as well and he continually brought other players into the game. “He was too strong for both centre-backs.

“They just stood off of him and he was flicking balls everywhere. He gave those two defenders a torrid time. “He got the goal he deserved. He was absolutely fantastic. He led the line with such aggression and he was superb.”
