Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has backed former teammate John Obi Mikel’s decision to cancel his Trabzonspor contract amid the coronavirus crisis.

Mikel wasn’t happy with the failure of the Turkish football authorities to suspend the Turkish league amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The 32 year old midfielder opted to leave Trabzonspor, who sit top of the table in Turkey, despite having a year left on his contract.

Explaining his decision to cancel his Trabzonspor contract, Mikel said: “There is more to life than football.

“I do not feel comfortable and do not want to play football in this situation.

“Everyone should be home with their families and loved ones in this critical time. Season should be cancelled as the world is facing such turbulent times.”

Drogba responded by saying: “Words of wisdoms.”
