Mateo Kovacic enjoyed playing at Stamford Bridge this season. The Croatian is one of Blue’s key players for their Champions League Push. Last season under Maurizio Sarri, Kovacic was a relatively off-color. Mateo played till 60 minutes and then replaced by Ross Barkley. The 25-year-old did not have any unique skills.
However, this season Kovacic appears to be reborn under Frank Lampard.
Every player is different, the ex -Chelsea player Frank Lampard was an attacking and goal-scoring midfielder, however, Claude Makele’s game was playing defensive. Kovacic shows up as a highly capable ball carrier in the center of the park, his number does not say as much but he is vital for the Chelsea squad.
MATEO KOVACIC IS KEVIN DE BRUYNE FOR CHELSEA?
Generally, CM (Central Midfielder) have to refrain from dribbling and the carrying is executed by players out wide, the wingers.
The Croatian International appears comfortable doing both after being given permission from Frank Lampard. Over 200 central midfielders have spent 1000 minutes in Europe’s top five leagues this season, with Kovacic impressing with the ball and dribbles with progressive carries per 90.
Evidently, the only player in England whose numbers can be matched with Kovacic is Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgium midfielder carries the ball around the same amount, but averaging 91 dribbles per game.
However, the 25-year-old is quite a rare talent. His skills are rare and suited to the modern game. When pressurized he’s able to bring his team to the final third of the pitch without relying on passing. Under Chelsea’s boss, Frank Lampard, Mateo Kovacic is now establishing himself to be much more positive.
