Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud could be set to extend his stay in the Premier League despite looking for a move away in January.
There has been a lot of transfer speculation in the media over the past few weeks about the imminent departure of striker Giroud, who has become very unhappy in the Chelsea side this season after falling behind Tammy Abraham in the pecking order.
Abraham has proved himself to be a top Premier League striker, leading the clubs scoring charts in the Premier League this season, and rather than sit on the bench on a weekly basis, Giroud has shown a desire to depart the club for pastures new.
There was even speculation in the media that he was all set to leave the club during the January window, but with the Blues unable to sign a new striker, and Abraham picking up a serious injury, it meant that Lampard needed the Frenchman to stay put until at least the end of the season.
But the 33-year-old French striker has started to become a big part of the plans at Stamford Bridge, meaning that he is now needed in the side and recent reports have suggested that he is in talks to sign a new deal at the club.
Now his agent has opened up and admitted that he could now decide to stay at Chelsea for another season, His agent Vincenzo Morabito told Calciomercato: “Giroud was an opportunity in January but now, given that the championships could also be played in June and July, he could decide to stay at Chelsea for another year.
“However, everything is still uncertain, given the general situation which, in my opinion, may have cleared up in a few weeks, between the end of April and the beginning of May the picture could be more complete.” Giroud is a decent player off the bench and if he is happy to play second fiddle to Abraham next season, then there is no reason why he cant stay at the club and be happy.
