Chelsea and Spurs have made preliminary approaches towards Ajax regarding the possible signing of shot-stopper Andre Onana. The Premier League clubs will face a battle to land Cameroon international’s signature, with PSG also interested in the goalkeeper.
Andre could also have the opportunity to come back to the Blaugrana with Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s future reportedly uncertain with the Spanish club. Onana spent several years in the Catalan giants academy before moving to Ajax and kickstarting his professional career.
Football legends and current Ajax chiefs Edwin van der Sar and Marc Overmars would be prepared to sell the 24-year-old goalkeeper this summer, with the Dutch club valuing the ace at around €30m. The report adds that Andre is hoping to bring a new challenge in one of Europe’s more competitive leagues after impressing in the Eredivisie.
The London giants appear to be on the hunt for a new shot-stopper with Frank Lampard benching marquee signing Kepa Arrizabalaga recently. The Cameroonian goalkeeper, at 24 years old, would be a fine long-term option for any of the top European teams that are interested in his services.
The Blues could perhaps be seen as the London club where he’d have the most natural path to becoming No.1 from the get-go as he’d otherwise have to displace experienced star shot-stoppers in Keylor Navas and Hugo Lloris at Paris and Tottenham respectively.
A possible come back to the Catalan giants at this stage appears to be the least likely destination, with a swoop for Andre seemingly dependent on Ter Stegen leaving the Camp Nou.
