Chelsea have just completed the signing of Thiago Silva on a free transfer, with the central defender joining the club less than a week after contesting the Champions League final with PSG.
The club announced the move on their official website, explaining that it’s a one year deal, with an option to extend for a further year on the part of the club.
His quotes on signing make it clear just how excited he is to be joining the Blues, and how much of an impact the presence of Frank Lampard made to his signing:
“I am so happy to be joining Chelsea. I am delighted to be a part of Frank Lampard’s exciting squad for next season and I’m here to challenge for honours. See you soon Chelsea fans, I look forward to playing at Stamford Bridge very soon.”
Silva’s English is not great, and there’s not long before the season starts. However he should be fit and ready to play after PSG reached the final of the Champions League mini tournament, and be training with Lampard’s squad as soon as next week.
He’s unlikely to feature tomorrow in the friendly against Brighton, but the sooner we can have him integrating with his new teammates the better, with the season now just a couple of weeks away.
Done deal! 🙌 Welcome to Chelsea, @TSilva3! #OhhThiagoSilva
