Juventus highly-rated defender reveals interest from Chelsea

The previous week was a very special one for the Romanian youngster Radu Dragusin, with the star making his debut for Juventus in the UEFA Champions League.

At just 18, Radu was given 21 minutes during the Turin-based club’s 2-0 win over Dynamo Kyiv last month.

It’s a huge jump for the talent, who had been playing in the youth sides before that, and there’s excitement around his progress.

Considering the occasion, TMW have spoken to entourage Florin Manea, who helped arrange the move to the Old Lady.

And he’s explained why in spite of interest from other clubs, with Chelsea the only one named, Radu chose to sign for Juventus.

“There were other teams too, it’s true,” explain Florin. “But he really wanted the Bianconeri.

“He asked me where he could become a great central defender. This is why he chose Juventus, and there was also Chelsea on the boy.”

Since signing for the Serie A outfit back in 2018, the Romanian ace has been making his way through the system and has not yet been sent out on loan anywhere. That may be why Bianconeri were preferred to Chelsea, and also the great tradition the reigning Serie A champions have of central defenders.

Elsewhere, Rangers are reportedly keen on signing Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour on loan when the January transfer market opens for business.

The 19-year-old ace has only just recovered from a knee operation and made his first start of the 2020-21 season against FC Krasnodar on Tuesday night, playing the full 90 minutes of the UCL clash.

He could face a battle to secure regular minutes under manager Frank Lampard this season, though, and according to The Scottish Sun, Rangers are readying a loan move at the start of 2021. The report states that a switch to Steven Gerrard’s team in the middle of the season could help him secure a spot in the Scotland roster for next summer’s European Championships.
