At final stage, he’s set to become a Chelsea player, Club confirm as French-man set to head to Stamford Bridge
According to 90min, Jules Kounde’s agents have notified Chelsea that the French defender is prepared to complete his transfer to Stamford Bridge.
However, Kounde’s asking price of £55 million was reached by the Blues earlier this week, but despite never submitting a formal proposal to Sevilla, Barcelona kept in touch with the 23-year-old in an effort to persuade him to transfer to Camp Nou.
Kounde, who was left out of Sevilla’s preseason squad because he is recovering from an injury and hasn’t started team training yet, asked to go to Portugal with the rest of the first team despite not being included in the group.
Chelsea supporters were alarmed by the defender’s antics, but sources have now told 90min that Kounde has officially expressed his intention to complete his move to England.
However, Personal terms have long been agreed after Chelsea came close to signing Kounde last summer, and with Sevilla giving the green light as well, the Blues are now finalising the necessary paperwork to get this long-awaited signing over the line.
Kounde is now set to become Chelsea’s second defensive reinforcement of the summer following the arrival of Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli.
Furthermore, The Frenchman’s arrival could also trigger the departure of current Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta, who is wanted by Barcelona and would cost the Catalan side a small fee. Having activated the ‘second lever’ – selling 15% of their TV rights – Barcelona have the capability to pursue a move for the 32-year-old.
