‘Behind the scenes’ — Romano finally reveals Chelsea wanted to complete £50m bid on deadline day
According to Fabrizio Romano, Romeo Lavia, a Southampton player and a Belgian prodigy, was a target for Chelsea.
The Saints regard Lavia to be essential to their project, thus they turned down the Blues’ £50 million bid for the 18-year-old.
Romano tweeted: “Behind the scenes. Chelsea wanted to sign Romeo Lavia on Deadline Day with £50m verbal proposal rejected by Southampton — of course, he’s untouchable.”
“Southampton invested £12m plus add-ons for Lavia — and Man City have £40m buy back clause.”
However, The young midfielder joined Soton in June this year. He has already made five appearances for the Saints, scoring once—precisely against Chelsea in a 2-1 win on August 30.
The Blues ended up signing Denis Zakaria on loan.
