Todd Boehly made his biggest mistake of the summer letting 18-year-old leave Chelsea – opinion

Todd Boehly has certainly come in for plenty of criticism since he took over Chelsea over a year ago now.

The squad right now is completely unrecognisable from the one who won the Champions League back in 2021, and this has not gone down well with everybody.

A 12th placed finish last season infuriated many, however it can definitely be said that investment has been made to try and bring them back to the top.

Twice since the American took over have they smashed their own transfer record, as they completed the midfield overhaul with the addition of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

It remains to be seen whether the recent changes at the club will lead to better results on the pitch, although it has to be said that the vibe does certainly look stronger at the club.

However, despite a much improved summer of business there are still questions marks regarding one move made by the club.

Boehly has made huge Santos mistake

There was plenty of excitement regarding the addition of Andrey Santos made by the club back in January, with the belief being that they have signed a real star for the future.

This has been backed up by the fact that he is already a full international for Brazil, and was one of the most consistent performers for the club on their pre-season tour of the United States.

Fast forward to now though, he has hardly appeared at all for his loan club, Nottingham Forest.

Recently he was not even named on the bench despite being fit, and this is beginning to become a concern for the Blues and his development.

Considering there were plenty of clubs keen for him to join them on loan, the Blues should look at bringing him back and exploring another option before the entire summer is wasted.
