Julian Alvarez responds to possible Chelsea move as Blues agree £42M deal for attacker

The 24-year-old attacker for City has had two fantastic seasons at the Etihad, scoring 17 goals in the team’s treble-winning 2022–23 campaign and 19 goals in their Premier League title-winning campaign of 2023–24, which set a record.

Just seven Manchester City players played more minutes than the Argentine last season, despite the fact that he mostly covered for Golden Boot winner Erling Haaland.

Haaland has scored an incredible 90 goals in 98 games for City, so it seems unlikely that Alvarez can unseat him. However, there have been rumors that Haaland may leave the Etihad in pursuit of regular playing time.

The 24-year-old was reportedly being pursued by several teams, including Chelsea, who prioritized adding a new forward this summer following Nicolas Jackson’s inconsistent performance.

However, Alvarez has now squashed any speculation that he may make the move to West London, having confirmed he is happy to stay with the Citizens past this summer.

In an interview with ESPN, Alvarez stated, “These are things that are said, but I am calm, I am comfortable and happy at City. We will see what happens.”

Paris Saint-Germain were also believed to have been linked with Alvarez, as they look to sign a suitable replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who completed his move to Real Madrid last week.

CHELSEA AGREE DURAN TERMS –

CHELSEA have agreed a £42 million deal to sign Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran, according to reports in Colombia.

We had expressed an interest in signing Duran in the January transfer window, but failed to get a transfer deal done as Aston Villa had no intention of letting the star leave half way through a very exciting season.

However – the club are in the market for a new striker this summer and according to Colombia’s Guillermo Arango, the club have now reached an agreement with Villa over a £42m transfer fee.

Arango reports that we are now in talks with Duran over his contract.

Speaking last month, Duran’s agent Jonathan Herrera, suggested that the striker was unhappy with his lack of playing time at Villa.

‘He is a player who has a contract with Aston Villa, he ended up doing very well and the coach is counting on him, it is a club that, having got into the Champions League is a great opportunity, but we know he wants to play, he wants to go out and play, we are going to see,’ Herrera told El VBar Caracol.

‘Now the market is opening up, the club is looking at some options and so are we.’
