Chelsea want to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Leon Bailey this summer if they manage to freeze their transfer ban, reports say.
The Blues filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport and are hopeful Fifa’s ban on them signing players will be suspended during the appeal process.
Chelsea have long been linked with Bailey and have revived their interest in the 21-year-old, according to the Daily Mail. Bailey is valued at around £80million by his club and that figure would make him Chelsea’s most expensive signing ever.
Chelsea are on the hunt for more options in attack after selling Eden Hazard to Real Madrid. Hazard’s switch was confirmed this week and Chelsea will immediately collect £88m for their talisman.
Chelsea want versatile young wingers and believe Bailey fits the bill, despite enduring a difficult season in Germany.
Bailey was courted by a host of top clubs, including Chelsea, before he signed for Leverkusen in January 2017, but managed to score just five goals in the 2018/19 campaign.
Christian Pulisic is already a Chelsea player and Ajax’s David Neres is another option for the Blues. But, all of Chelsea’s transfer plans depend on if they can get their transfer ban lifted.
