“A mad name to throw out bro!” – Jermain Defoe reveals why he pay to watch Chelsea star than watching Lionel Messi

Premier League icon, Jermain Defoe has revealed that he would prefer to pay money to watch Cole Palmer play right now, more than any other player, including Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to the ex-Tottenham forward, he believes the likes of Ronaldo and Messi are the past and Palmer is the future of football.

Defoe made this known while speaking on the BBC’s The Player’s Channel after former Watford striker, Troy Deeney asked him what player he enjoys watching right now.

Deeney said: “In today’s game, who would you pay to watch?”

Defoe replied: “Right now? Cole Palmer.”

Surprised by Defoe’s response, Deeney further probed: “Cole Palmer? That’s a mad first name to throw out bro! I think he’s sick by the way. You could go Messi, Ronaldo, Haaland and you went Cole Palmer.”

Defoe replied: “I’ve seen it, I’ve seen it. You know what I’m thinking about I want to go and watch someone who for the next 10, 15 years can be anything they want to be.

“Going forward now, I want to go and watch someone who’s young, exciting.”

Palmer has been in exciting form since joining Chelsea from Manchester City last summer, scoring 12 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions. The 21-year-old also has nine assists to his name.
