‘A transfer is the best solution, my story at the club is over’ – 50-goal man Chelsea target confirms he wants summer transfer
According to latest reports, long-term Chelsea target Robert Lewandowski has confirmed his desire to leave Bayern Munich this summer with a year left on his contract.
The 33-year-old finished the season with 35 goals in Bundesliga, 50 in all competitions, and more than double that of any other Bayern player.
It is hardly a surprise that Bayern president Herbert Hainer previously insisted that they would not let the striker leave before his contract expires next year.
Lewandowski is, of course, fully aware of the situation, but has now expressed his desire to leave the club this summer despite the club’s insistence.
“My story at Bayern is over,” the Poland international said in a press conference on Monday (via Goal).
“After everything that has happened in recent months, I cannot imagine further good cooperation.
“Bayern is a serious club and I hope they will not keep me just because they can.
“A transfer is the best solution for all parties.”
However, Chelsea reportedly remain interested in Lewandowski, and Lewandowski has been also linked with a move to Barcelona.
The Spanish club, however, is unsurprisingly not the only club reportedly interested in a player of his calibre.
Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that Chelsea have a long-term interest in the 2021 FIFA men’s player of the year.
Romano added that Chelsea even considered signing Lewandowski last summer before eventually opting for Romelu Lukaku.
The Blues have reportedly maintained a good relationship with the player’s agent, Pini Zahavi, which could only help if they decided to make a move.
It seems unlikely that Chelsea would go for Lewandowski while keeping Lukaku, who is among the club’s highest-earning players, in the squad, though.
