Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso has established himself as a top wing-back in the Premier League, and was excellent for Chelsea as he played a prominent role in our title victory in 2017.
Alonso has come up against a number of world-class wingers during his playing career, but he has named former Chelsea star Damien Duff as the toughest he has ever faced.
Before his move to Chelsea, Alonso had played for Bolton earlier in his career and he faced Damien Duff, that’s after Duff had left the Blues.
In a Premier League clash between Bolton and Fulham, the left-back was on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline as Fulham ran riot at the Reebok Stadium, in a season where the Trotters were relegated.
Asked who the ‘most difficult’ opponent he’s faced is during a Q&A on Chelsea’s Instagram page, Alonso said: “For this one I would have to go back to my first few games in the Premier League with Bolton. “I remember having a bad game playing against Damien Duff at Fulham.”
Duff indeed was a top act during his playing days, and Chelsea fans will remember the counterattack machine that Duff was during his playing days with Chelsea under Jose Mourinho.
