Alvaro Morata injury leaves Chelsea short up front

Alvaro Morata has just limped off in Chelsea’s Europa League matchday 6 game against MOL Vidi.

The forward was selected up front for the game presumably to give Olivier Giroud a rest, but instead the Frenchman has found himself on the pitch before half time.

That’s a real shame for everyone, as we’re about to head into a hectic period of games leading up to Christmas. T

hese are 45 minutes of play that Giroud could really do without.

It looked like the former Real Madrid man landed awkwardly, and may have jarred his knee on touchdown.

We await Maurizio Sarri’s press conference after the game to find out the full extent of the injury.

If it turns out to be bad, it may accelerate our need for a forward in January – perhaps a recall for Tammy Abraham is on the cards now? That could be the real silver lining of this injury.
