‘As things stand’ – Fabrizio Romano speaks on 54-year-old manager replacing Pochettino at Chelsea next season

In fact, Fabrizio Romano has downplayed the likelihood that one elite manager will take over at Chelsea for the upcoming campaign.

He informed Caught Offside that as of right now, he is unaware of any connections between the position and Antonio Conte, the boss who is currently unemployed.

It is evident that Conte has a prosperous history at Stamford Bridge, having won the FA Cup and the Premier League during his two seasons there.

However, since then, things have not exactly gone as planned, as evidenced by Tottenham’s dismal run in London.

No current links between Chelsea and Conte
The Italian is currently out of work, and a return to his home country has often been touted as the most likely outcome in terms of his next job.

However, there have been murmurs that a return to West London could also be on the cards.

Romano however has come out and put a bit of a dampener on those claims.

He said: “There’s also been a story about the possibility of Antonio Conte returning to Chelsea as manager, while he’s also been linked as a candidate for another of his former clubs Juventus.

“As things stand, I’m not aware of any concrete contact, Conte is waiting for the right proposal but there is zero to report with these two clubs right now.”

Pressure on Pochettino
There are reports that current Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is under severe pressure in his role.

Qualifying for Europe for next season is likely the target, and that looks difficult to achieve through the conventional route of a top seven finish.

This will likely put pressure on them reaching the final of the FA Cup and going onto to win the whole thing.

After the entertaining albeit lacklustre quarter-final against Leicester City, they will have their work cut out when they face holders Manchester City in the last four in a few weeks time.
