Ashley Cole believes 22-year-old Chelsea star is best Chelsea player in 2-0 win over Sheffield United ‘ Very strong for Chelsea ‘

Ashley Cole was left really impressed by Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo in the home win against Sheffield United.

Chelsea secured a much-needed victory on Saturday afternoon by beating Sheffield United 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Despite a very quiet first-half, the Blues found some rhythm in the second period to earn a vital three points in the Premier League.

First of all, Cole Palmer opened the scoring with a powerful first-time finish from a Raheem Sterling cross.

Nicolas Jackson doubled the advantage on the hour mark when he had the simplest of finishes into an empty net.

Best Chelsea performance

Ashley Cole, who was on co-commentary for Chelsea’s official coverage, singled out Moises Caicedo for some special praise after his display.

The 22-year-old midfielder really controlled things and caught the eye against a Sheffield United side rooted to the bottom of the league table.

“I would say his best game in a Chelsea shirt actually,” Cole said via Chelsea’s 5th Stand App.

He added in stoppage times: “Caicedo has had a very good game.”

Moises Caicedo against Sheffield United

It would’ve been panic stations if Chelsea had lost at home to Sheffield United, but credit to the players for doing the basics and getting over the line for three points.

Caicedo, who partnered Conor Gallagher in midfield, was one of several decent performers.

There’s always going to be lots of talk around him because of the £115million price tag (Sky Sports), but it does feel week by week he’s slowly starting to show what all the fuss is about.

Speaking on the ‘Obi One’ podcast recently, John Obi Mikel expressed his view that Caicedo will come good in Chelsea colours. We’re very much in the same camp, too.

We fully expect him to be in the strongest XI on Tuesday night for a massive Carabao Cup quarter-final against Newcastle United.
