‘Better player than Hudson-Odoi now’, – as Chelsea reveals regrets after selling 19-year-old star player
Callum Hudson-Odoi, a Chelsea kid, was once regarded as the best thing to come out of the Chelsea academy.
Under Maurizio Sarri, the teenage winger was regarded as an energetic player, and he was one of Chelsea’s liveliest players at the time. He was called up to the England squad at a young age, but injuries have impeded his development.
Meanwhile, ESPN has put former Chelsea academy standout Jamal Musiala sixth in their ranking of Europe’s best young players.
ESPN compiled a list of the greatest players under the age of 21, and several Chelsea academy products made the cut.
Musiala, a 19-year-old Bayern Munich standout, was ranked seventh, 24 places ahead of another Chelsea academy graduate, Marc Guehi.
Musiala joins Bayern Munich in the summer of 2019 after nearly a decade at Chelsea.
Tino Livramento was ranked 38th, while Callum Hudson-Odoi was placed 39th.
21-year-old Erling Haaland is first on the list, followed by Barcelona’s Pedri, Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr, and Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka.
Musiala is now a star for Bayern Munich and Germany, and Chelsea will be left scratching their heads as to how they let this potential slip through their fingers.
