Lots of Chelsea fans are purring over Olivier Giroud’s recent comments targeting a new contract at Stamford Bridge. In an exclusive with the Evening Standard, the French World Cup winner said he wants to extend his time in London after a dramatic change in his fortunes.

When asked if he would like to sign a new deal with the Blues, Giroud said: “Yes. Yes. Yeah, of course.” “There are a few months to go, games to win and maybe another trophy, and after, you know, I think I have two (or) three nice seasons in front of me. It’s not the time to talk about contracts and everything but I will take a decision when it comes.”

Despite losing his place in the starting line-up to first-choice striker Tammy Abraham, the 33-year-old is still open to a new deal and would welcome a stay at the Bridge.

Giroud went on to add he enjoys a healthy rivalry with the England international, saying “I don’t know how long Tammy will be out for, to be honest. When he comes back, I will need him to be ready and then we can have a good competition again, which will be good for the team.”

The French international has won the Europa League and the FA Cup during his time at the club. He has netted 20 goals and provided 13 assists for Chelsea in all competitions and is currently valued at £8.1 million. Giroud was close to reuniting with former Blues boss Antonio Conte at Inter Milan during the January transfer window but Chelsea couldn’t sign a suitable replacement.
