‘Big loss’: Ashley Cole thinks Chelsea are really struggling without £195,000-a-week player

‘Huge loss for us, with him raining goals will come’: Ashley Cole believes Chelsea are really struggling without £195,000-a-week player

Chelsea legend Ashley Cole is worried about where the goals are going to come from for his former side amid Christopher Nkunku’s absence.

Christopher Nkunku is currently out injured and missed the Blues’ 3-1 defeat to West Ham United as a result, while Nicolas Jackson is yet to open up his account for the Blues.

Speaking on Sky Sports after Chelsea’s loss at the London Stadium, Cole said: “I really feel it’s going to be a problem, in terms of goals.

“Whether Nkunku comes back quicker than we think, I don’t know. For me, he’s a big loss.”

Chelsea really struggled for goals last season, scoring just 38 in the Premier League. And after their first two games this term, it does not look like much has improved yet.

At present, it really is hard to see where Chelsea’s goals are going to come from.

Nkunku looked like he would be the solution to their problem, but he picked up a knee injury at the end of the club’s pre-season and will now be out for some time.

His record at RB Leipzig was hugely impressive and you just cannot help but feel that if Mauricio Pochettino had the £195,000-a-week (Spotrac) forward available, then his side might have more points on the board.

It is now up to the Argentine to find a solution, but that is not going to be easy. You only have to look at how Chelsea performed in front of goal last term to know that.

Still, Pochettino is a quality coach, so perhaps the former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur boss will find an answer to what has undoubtedly been a huge problem for Chelsea for a long time. If he cannot, then the Stamford Bridge faithful could be in for another ugly campaign.
