Blues already winning race to sign £55 million Frenchman, will fans welcome defender?
Chelsea are reportedly interested in French star Jules Kounde this summer transfer window, but would he be a good signing for the club?
The Frenchman was part of the Sevilla team that won the Europa League two season ago under Julen Lopategui. In the season just gone, they held the second-best defensive record in Spain, conceding just 21 goals in 29 games.
Kounde’s contract expires in 2024 and the report suggests the Blues will be competing with the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid for his signature this summer transfer window.
According to ABC Sevilla, the Blues are now the frontrunners to sign the 22-year-old this summer after another impressive season in La Liga, with Thomas Tuchel keen to improve that back-line over the course of the next few months.
Kounde, who is currently away with France at the Euros, has also recently hinted at a desire for a new challenge as he continues to grow as a player.
‘I’m at a great club,’ he said ahead of France’s latest Euro 2020 fixture. ‘But obviously, I would like to evolve into a bigger team.
‘We will see what the future holds, but it is something in my head.’
There is no doubt that Kounde has the ability to go on and become one of the very best defenders in world football, if he makes the right move in his career. But considering he could learn from the great Thiago Silva, making a move to the Bridge would be brilliant for him.
He would cost £55 million to acquire, but he certainly has the ability to make an impact at the club
