Boehly set for ‘brilliant news’ with £117m duo at Stamford Bridge
According to former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer, Chelsea’s desire to re-sign Mason Mount and Reece James is “great news.”
However, Both players are believed to be drawing interest from other teams at the moment, but it appears that new owner Todd Boehly will make re-signing the English duo a priority.
The Boehly-led group, which is preparing to take over Chelsea, wants to offer new contracts to both Mount and James, according to CBS SPORTS’ Ben Jacobs.
This comes after The Athletic reported that Mount is being pursued by three of England’s biggest clubs, as well as several foreign clubs.
Real Madrid have already made an approach for James, according to GOAL, with the intention of signing him in the summer transfer window of 2023.
The Chelsea duo will be out of contract around the same time, with Mount’s deal expiring in 2024 and James’ in 2025, according to Transfermarkt.
Fortunately for Chelsea fans, it appears that Boehly plans to offer fresh contracts to the two Chelsea academy graduates, which Palmer believes is fantastic news.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the ex-Leeds United and Southampton star said: “It’s brilliant news. How are you going to build a football club if you lose your best players? Chelsea have had this habit recently of letting players get down to the wire with their contracts, and you run the risk then. You run the risk.”
