BREAKING: Chelsea announce fifth summer signing after player agree a six-year deal with club
According to reports, Marc Cucurella has officially been acquired by Chelsea from Brighton.
The 24-year-old defender will cost the Blues almost £60 million over the course of his six-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
Levi Colwill, a highly regarded defender for Chelsea, is moving to Brighton on a season-long loan in a related transaction.
“I’m really happy. It’s a big opportunity for me to join one of the biggest clubs in the world,” Cucurella said.
Cucurella operates mainly as a left-back but can also play as a wing-back or left-sided central defender.
He will therefore offer versatility to Blues boss Thomas Tuchel following the departures of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger and amid uncertainty over the future Marcos Alonso.
CLUB STATEMENT: MARC CUCURELLA.
Following reports from numerous media outlets this week, we can confirm an agreement has been reached with Brighton and Hove Albion for the signing of Marc Cucurella.
