Chelsea Biss Frank Lampard pushed for a new striker in the just concluded January transfer window but he and the other Blues Faithfuls were left disappointed after the failure to secure the signing of at least one of their striker targets.
However, Lampard and Chelsea tried to sign a new attacker last month especially after the lifting of their transfer ban gave the West London club the freedom to sign players but they were unable to sign anyone.
Chelsea were linked with attackers like Paris Saint Germain (PSG) striker Edinson Cavani, Lyon hitman Moussa Dembele, Red Bull Salzburg attacker Timo Werner and Napoli attacker Dries Mertens but they didn’t get anyone thus leaving first-choice striker Tammy Abraham with the possibility of burning out before the end of this summer.
Lampard has used Tammy Abraham in virtually almost all the important games this season as he seems to not trust the other strikers Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud, Tammy Abraham has scored 15 goals in all competitions including 13 goals in the Premier League this term.
The England international is almost certain to have a new striker competition next season with recent reports claiming that the Blues will return for Lyon attacker Moussa Dembele after they were snubbed by Timo Werner of RB Leipzig. Timo Werner wants to sign for Liverpool ahead of Chelsea thus leaving Moussa Dembele as their next option.
Moussa Dembele is the main man at Lyon this season after the injury to Memphis Depay towards the end of last year. The Frenchman would certainly provide stiff competition for Tammy Abraham at Chelsea if they are able to secure his signing from Lyon.
The likes of Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud are expected to move on from Chelsea at the end of this season especially Frenchman Giroud whose current deal expires this summer.
