BREAKING: Chelsea rename Stamford Bridge to honour Chelsea star

Chelsea has temporarily renamed Stamford Bridge to “Samford Bridge” in honor of Sam Kerr, who recently inked a new deal that will keep her there until 2026.

This change will last until Sunday. Additionally, Chelsea’s Kingsmeadow stadium is renamed “Kerrsmeadow” for the same period.

Sam Kerr has been a loyal servant since signing for Chelsea, and is a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge.

Kerr, an Australian striker, joined Chelsea in 2019 and has been pivotal in Chelsea’s women success, including winning five WSL titles.

She is currently recovering from an ACL injury sustained in January.

The deal is the first major move by Chelsea since the appointment of Sonia Bompastor, who left Lyon to replace Emma Hayes as head coach last month.

Chelsea general manager Paul Green said: “We are delighted that Sam has extended her deal with the club. Sam is a leader and one of the world’s best strikers and goalscorers.

“She has been very important to our success, and we look forward to welcoming her back from injury next season.”
