“Championship mentality coach” – Chelsea fans hates latest Enzo Maresca comments after Brighton defeat
Chelsea lost to Brighton 2-1 in the FA Cup fourth round Wednesday night, and Blues supporters will not like how Enzo Maresca answered a single question.
After the match, the Italian took a seat to discuss the loss, Chelsea’s elimination from another competition, and their missed opportunity to take home a trophy this season.
For the second consecutive week, Chelsea took an early lead thanks to a terrible goalkeeping mistake from a Cole Palmer cross. They were extremely fortunate. However, nothing went well for Chelsea after that, and Maresca made some additional remarks following the match that Chelsea will be upset about.
The rest of the game just fell away from Chelsea and their play was lethargic, poor, had no imagination, just more possession play but not looking like doing anything with it.
Chelsea soon went 2-1 down against the home side and they didn’t even look like they would get close to finding an equalising goal. And in the end things just faded out and Chelsea got dumped out of the cup by a team who recently lost 7-0 against Nottingham Forest.
Chelsea fans will not like this
Maresca was asked after the game:
Were you disappointed with the way your players reacted to going 2-1 down tonight?
“No, I don’t think so because after the second goal we conceded, I think we had two or three moments, two or three chances where we could score. The reaction has been there but every game is different.
“This game is different from West Ham. Also, we were at home [vs West Ham] in our stadium with our fans – that can help a little bit. In terms of a reaction, after the second goal we conceded, the reaction was there.”
