Chelsea and Barcelona could agree a swap deal for player
Chelsea has been offered the chance to sign Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest in a swap deal for Marcos Alonso, according to reports.
Under Thomas Tuchel, the latter’s career with the London giants has taken a turn for the better, with four goals and five assists in 28 Premier League appearances last season, despite Ben Chilwell’s lengthy hiatus.
However, Marcos Alonso’s one-year contract at Stamford Bridge is coming to an end soon, and La Liga giants Barcelona are pushing hard to sign the 31-year-old in the summer window.
Despite being satisfied at Chelsea, the Spanish defender has expressed his desire to return to his homeland, telling OndaCero: “On paper, I have one more year of contract and that is what there is till now.”
“I’ve mentioned before that I’d like to [return to Spain], but it’s not totally up to me.” There are two more games [with Spain] until it’s time to rest.
“I’ve played 50 games, we’ve won the World Cup, and we’ve lost in the Cup Finals.” I don’t have anything to complain about at Chelsea, but I do have a strong desire to play in Spain. It isn’t fully dependent on me, and I am content at Chelsea.”
According to 90Min, the Blues are willing to allow Spanish full-back Fernando Torres depart for Barcelona in exchange for 21-year-old American international Dest.
During the 2021-22 season, the ex-Ajax man contributed three assists in 31 games for Xavi’s club across all tournaments, but only started 17 La Liga games due to injuries and competition from Brazilian Dani Alves.
