Chelsea and Real Madrid to battle to sign €50m attacker this summer
Chelsea is reportedly prepared to challenge Real Madrid, one of the biggest teams in the world, in an attempt to acquire a young player who has once again been connected to them.
As part of their recruitment strategy and future squad planning, the Blues have been aiming to sign a number of outstanding young players. This week, after signing Kendry Paez, they are now being linked to another 16-year-old.
Real Madrid is reportedly pursuing Franco Mastantuono, although Chelsea is also expected to become involved at this point.
According to reports in Argentina, referenced by MD, Chelsea are willing to battle for his signature. Mastantuono has a release clause of €45m that rises to €50m in the final 10 days of the transfer window.
Real Madrid opened talks with him last week according to multiple reports, and earlier on Monday, it emerged that Mastantuono will prioritise a move to Real Madrid. Head Scout Juni Calafat has held talks with the River Plate starlet, while General Manager Jose Angel Sanchez has been in touch with the club.
So basically it looks like Chelsea may as well bow out now on this one as it looks like the player is dead set on joining Real Madrid, and you can understand why – it is many player’s ‘dream club’ in this day and age, and Chelsea are nowhere near that level at the moment.
They were there not so long ago though, and with the new owners they are aspiring to be back there again very soon. But it will take time, so maybe Chelsea should be prioritising the here and now and making sure they have a squad together who can get them back to being successful again as soon as possible, rather than trying to snap up all the talented teenagers from around the globe!
