Chelsea board believes £80m player can be their perfect striker

Journalist Simon Phillips has revealed that some Chelsea staff advocate for Ivan Toney as the club’s new permanent striker. That is according to his Substack. Chelsea is prioritizing a new number nine, considering several highly talented players for the role.

Yet, the discussed price tags make January deals seem improbable. Since, Brentford is reportedly demanding £100m for the Englishman.

After returning from his ban, he promptly showcased his abilities, scoring in his comeback against Nottingham Forest. Phillips asserts that some Stamford Bridge staff view him as the ideal forward addition.

Phillips said: “Ivan Toney is still on Chelsea’s striker shortlist, and there are people within the club who still really like him and believe he should be our new permanent striker.”

“Toney has basically been saying that he would leave Brentford this month if a top club came in and paid the valuation. But he is expected to stay at his club until the summer due to his club completely overvaluing him right now.”

“It was no surprise to see Toney have a great classic number 9 performance on his return to football on Saturday whilst also getting on the scoresheet”

Both Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja have been handling the forward minutes this season. But Chelsea appears dissatisfied. Thus, leading to reports suggesting they are open to offers for Broja this month.

For now, Chelsea seems to be in a tight situation as they are struggling for victories in the league. They will need to regain their stability if they want to hold a respectable position in the league standings.
