Chelsea boss Frank Lampard explains what motivate him ahead of Liverpool clash
Frank Lampard has a very personal reason to take the UEFA Super Cup seriously, apart from the fact that it is his first opportunity to win a title as a manager.
In 2012 and 2013, Lampard captained Chelsea in their previous attempts to lift this trophy, but both times he was on a losing side, as Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich emerged winners. Now, the manager intends to prove that the third time is a charm.
“This game means a lot to the club,” Lampard said at the press conference. “I know first hand because I lost two Super Cup finals. We lost to Atlético in poor circumstances when we were far, far off and gave them the Super Cup. We were unfortunate to lose to [Bayern] Munich.

“When you work hard to get into this game between two champions it is important at a club like Chelsea that you give everything to win it. It means something to us as a club because it is another trophy and, for me, it would be a really nice start personally.
“But more than that it would give a really good feeling for the players with the season coming up that we can compete with Liverpool. If we win a cup that goes down in our history it gives the belief that we can go on from there. Certainly, we understand the importance of it.”
