Maurizio Sarri could reportedly be appointed Chelsea manager by Wednesday, bringing an end to the six-week-long saga.
You have to feel for Antonio Conte at this point. He probably wouldn’t have been surprised if the club sent him packing following the FA Cup final. It’s hard to believe a manager could survive under Roman Abramovich having failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Survive Conte has, though. For now, at least. He is currently overseeing the start of Chelsea’s pre-season training, even though he is not expected to be employed come the start of the 2018/19 campaign.
According to CalcioNapoli24, Chelsea could finally be set to put Conte out of his misery. It’s claimed that confidence is growing we will complete a deal to take Sarri from Napoli and appoint him as our new manager this week – potentially on Wednesday.
We’re reluctant to believe reports of this kind as many of them have proven to be wide of the mark in recent weeks. We will see…
