Chelsea dealt with another double setback ahead of Arsenal clash ‘Not a good sign’

Chelsea striker Armando Broja has returned to Cobham after being sent home by Albania due to a fresh injury setback.

National team manager Sylvinho said that the forward was examined but it was decided that he would not be fit enough to face the Czech Republic or Bulgaria:

“As for Broja, I have to give bad news. He was with the team for only two days. After consulting with our doctors and Chelsea’s, he can’t make it.”

It’s a bitter blow for the 22-year-old, who has only recently recovered from an ACL injury. He was given a surprise start against Fulham earlier this month before also starting in the 4-1 win over Burnley last time out.

However, Broja was substituted at half-time in the game at Turf Moor, with Nicolas Jackson replacing him for the second half. It remains to be seen whether it is simply fatigue or something more serious.

Another Chelsea player is also a doubt for the team’s next game against Arsenal

Broja’s injury has been compounded by the news that Cole Palmer sustained a thigh injury whilst playing for England’s Under 21s.

The midfielder was substituted in the second half of the 9-1 win over Serbia on Thursday evening. Manager Lee Carsley did, however, say that the player had only picked up a dead leg. In most cases, that wouldn’t keep him out for too long.

With Mauricio Pochettino’s side taking on the Gunners next Saturday, Palmer’s participation in that match is currently in question. The fact that Carsley said that the 21-year-old was subbed as a precaution, though, does give cause for optimism that he will be ready for the London derby.

Who else is currently out injured?

Chelsea have a pretty lengthy list of players on the sidelines. In addition to Broja and Palmer, 9 others are currently undergoing treatment.

Benoit Badiashile (hamstring), Trevoh Chalobah (hamstring), Axel Disasi (thigh) and Nicolas Jackson (wrist) are the closest to returning to action, but Ben Chilwell (hamstring), Marcus Bettinelli (knee), Romeo Lavia (ankle), Christopher Nkunku (knee) and Wesley Fofana (ACL) are not expected to be back anytime soon.
