Chelsea centre-back Kurt Zouma has been targeted with racial abuse on Twitter following our 2-2 draw with Sheffield United on Saturday afternoon.
We have already had to deal with this nonsense this season, with Tammy Abraham being on the receiving end on similar disgraceful abuse following our Super Cup defeat to Liverpool.
Unfortunately, it seems to be relentless. Have a look at this disgusting tweet from a Chelsea ‘fan’, whose name we are going to leave uncensored in hope that he is successfully identified.
It is not okay for tweets like this to be sent to footballers, no matter how high profile they are and regardless of whether the abuse will ever actually reach the target in question.
Twitter needs to intervene in order to prevent this from happening at all, let alone so regularly.
We’re not sure exactly what the answer is, but something needs to be done, and fast.
