Chelsea hero John Obi Mikel suffers racial abuse in Turkey

Chelsea hero John Obi Mikel has suffered racial abuse after playing a key role for Trabzonspor in their 2-1 victory over Fenerbahce on Saturday.

In a top of the table contest between the two sides, Mikel played a big role to help his team win the game as he made 4 clearances, 2 tackles and an interception during the game.

Following Trabzonspor’s victory, Mikel was a target of racial abuse on social media – which has now been condemned by the club.

The club released a statement that reads: “Racism is a refuge for helpless and ignorant people. Our football player, Obi Mikel, condemns the racist attacks after the Fenerbahce match.

“We present to the public that we have filed a criminal complaint against the attackers.”

Mikel spent over a decade at Chelsea and won so many titles. The 32-year-old played a key role as Chelsea won the Champions League in 2012.

Mikel who spent last season with Middlesbrough has made 22 appearances for his new cub across all competitions this term and helped them go into third place after they leapfrogged Fenerbahce as a result of their win on Saturday.
